The structure and intercommunications of the composite occipito‐atlas‐axis joint cavity of the dog was studied in 28 dogs through gross dissection and injection casts. The injection casts were prepared through the use of silicone rubber caulking material. The procedure used is described in the manuscript. The composite joint cavity is delineated and communications clearly identified. The joint is compared with that of other species in regard to postural adaptations and adaptations due to variety of head movements in different species.
