Abstract For age‐groups with ten German Landrace pigs earn were formed: fetuses with CRL of 145 mm., newborn piglets, piglets 3–4 weeks old, and slaughter hogs. Histological sections were taken from all parts of the thymuses and measured planimetrically using picture analysing apparatus. The quantitative analysis was similar to that described by H ammar for the human thymus. In addition to species‐specific results, fundamentally differing results were obtained which point to a special status for the thymus of the newborn.
