Summary Yolksac stones in domestic fowl From 20–30 yolksac stones are occasionally seen the liquid yellow yolk. They are spherical calcified structures about 100 μ in diameter. Their precursors seem to be leaflike myelin configurations which develop from degenerated yolksac epithelial cells. Predominantly calcium salts in amorphous or crystalline form are deposited in these configurations. Yolksac stones are resorted by the activity of foreign body giant cells. One day old chicks starved for 24 hours show an increase in yolksac stones and a retardation in the resorption of the yolksac.
