Drought and changes in the bryoflora and angiosperm flora in Kuwait in the years 1974–1990

SUMMARY The bryoflora and angiosperm flora in one of the main desert wadis, in the State of Kuwait on the western side of the Arabian Gulf, has been studied during two periods separated by an interval of 9 years. The first period lasted for four successive seasons; 1974/75–1977/78. The second period lasted for only three successive seasons; 1987/88–1989/90. Drastic changes both in rate of growth and diversity of the bryoflora and angiosperm flora were observed and recorded. These changes, which are due mainly to successive years of drought, are described here and discussed in detail.
