SUMMARY Chrysocrinus honorarius spec. nov. is described from a moorland near Staverden, The Netherlands. The taxonomic position of the new taxon is discussed with special regard to Chrysocrinus spp. and Kybotion globosum (Matv.) Bourr. (Syn.: Tylochrysis globosa (Matv.) Matv.). SEM observations show that this new species exhibits a combination of characters of the two above‐mentioned taxa. The manifestation of these characteristics appears to depend on the age of the specimen. The distribution of the different stages over different parts of submerged Sphagnum plants (its natural substrate) is described. The alga decidedly prefers as its habitat the chlorocytes of the outer surface of the apical parts of the Sphagnum leaves.
