SUMMARY The results of a study of Irish Lolio‐Potentillion communities are presented in this paper. The syntaxonomical and synecological position of the following communities are described: Basal community of Agrostis stolonifera‐[Lolio‐Potentillion anserinae] Lolium perenne‐Juncus inflexus type Juncus articulatus‐Galium palustre typeNasturtio‐Alopecuretum geniculati stellarietosum alsinis subass.nov. ranunculetosum scelerati subass.nov.Triglochino‐Agrostietum stoloniferae subassociation ranunculetosum repentis subassociation juncetosum gerardii subassociation inopsAgrostio‐Trifolietum fragiferi subassociation inops subassociation festucetosum rubraeThe relations of the communities to the two main environmental factors determining the internal differentiation within the Lolio‐Potentillion are discussed on the basis of ordination diagrams.
