SUMMARY The formation and degeneration of the antipodals show some ultrastructural changes in the cell. These are related to their ephemeral nature as well as to their transport function. On the contrary, the egg apparatus and the central cell continue to differentiate subcellularly. There is probably little functional relationship between the antipodals and other constituent cells of the embryo sac.
