SUMMARY From quantitative differences of kinetin effects on the growth rate of intact and decapitated coleoptiles under various experimental conditions it is inferred that kinetin itself has no growth‐promoting activity, but that it stimulates both auxin action and auxin production, and that it protects the auxin requiring mechanism of cell growth from being damaged by excessive auxin.
