SUMMARY Part of the IAA degrading protein complexes from pea roots are bound to the membranes. Various compounds can effect the release while recoupling can also be accomplished. The bonding of these enzymes to the membranes is probably effected by an intermediate compound or compounds, removal of which makes recoupling impossible. This intermediate compound is probably attached to the proteins of the membranes. A model of the bound state is given.
