Ruhland showed that the glands of Statice Gmelini consist of a complex of 16 cells rich in cytoplasm and with large nuclei (Fig. 1). The diameter of the glands is 43-46 /x. There were found on the upperside of the leaf 722 glands and on the underside 644 glands per sq. cm. Vacuoles eitherdo not occur in the gland cells or are but of a small size.
