The main purpose of this paper is to describe a regression approach to regional forecasting. The paper consists of two parts. The first part contains some procedures concerning the selection of variables in spatial regression models. The second part is devoted to the topic of the appropriate least squares estimation procedures and tests of significance. In particular, we examine ways of allowing the parameters of the regression model to vary either over space or through time.
