Transgenic mice carrying a 3.2‐kb genomic fragment comprising the bovine α‐lactalbumin gene transcription unit with 750 bp and 336 bp of 5′ and 3′ flanking regions, respectively, were generated. Tissue‐specific expression of the transgene was observed in five out of the six lines analyzed at levels close to the endogenous gene in two of them.
