Relationships have been derived which describe the pH dependence contributed to rate and equilibrium constants for an arbitrary enzymic reaction step by the ionization of an enzymic group or non‐enzymic reactant when both protonation states of the ionizing species are assumed to participate in the catalytic reaction.
