Three fragments from the A protein cistron of coliphage R17 ribonucleic acid have been found, purified and analysed from a partial T 1 ribonuclease digest. A sequence of 54 nucleotides common to all three of them has been established. Two possible amino‐acid sequences were derived from the nucleic acid sequence by the genetic code, one of which must be part of the A protein.
