Two neurotoxins were purified from Naja nigricollis venom using equilibrium chromatography. This method was shown to produce the most resolution to purify proteins having very close physico‐chemical properties. The toxins obtained were characterized, as well as three neurotoxins previously isolated from Naja haje venom, by the determination of N‐terminal (35 to 39 residues) and C‐terminal sequences. The usefulness of N‐terminal automatic sequencing for rapid identification of proteins is discussed.
