The oxidized cytochrome P‐450 shows an ESR‐spectrum with g ‐values at 2.41, 2.26 and 1.91. An attempt has been made to simulate these properties by studying the products of the reaction of a series of thiols with heminechloride in various solvents. g ‐values have been obtained around g 3 = 2.4, g 2 = 22 and g 1 = 1.9, depending on the chemical nature of the thiol and the solvent. The structure of the heme site in the oxidized cytochrome is discussed.
