All of the amino acid activating enzymes studied are capable of reacting with dATP in place of ATP. None of the other available nucleotides was found to be used by these enzymes. The K m of dATP is generally higher than that of ATP but the maximum velocities are similar in the complete reaction, esterification of transfer RNA. The rates of pyrophosphate exchange are much lower with dATP than with ATP in the cases studied.
