Two new C 19 ‐steroids with a 3‐oxo‐Δ 4 ‐structure have been isolated and identified after incubation of testosterone with 105,000 × g microsomes of human foetal liver. These two ultraviolet positive metabolites were isolated by ascending one‐dimensional thin‐layer chromatography. The isolated compounds were identified as 1β‐ and 2β‐hydroxytestosterone by means of gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry. They were formed in approximately the same amount, each one representing about 15 % of the amount of 6β‐hydroxytestosterone formed.
