The report describes a HPA‐1a (Zw a )‐negative woman with thrombocytopenia and antibodies in serum and eluate from autologous platelets with an operational anti‐HPA‐1a specificity. The results of the serological investigations were similar to the findings in most patients suffering from post‐transfusion purpura. However, the present patient had no history of blood transfusion prior to the unset of purpura and the thrombocytopenia had persisted 6 months before splenectomy.
