. A regional inventory management system—consignment of blood supply based on Brodheim's inventory model, rotation of blood units tailored to changeable hospital needs and removal of a credit system—was implemented in the Northwest Ohio Regional Blood Services Unit for a 30‐month period. The system successfully reduced outdates from 14.7 to 5.3% and better utilized available blood inventory. It also strengthened partnership and promoted cooperation among all participants.
