. The frequencies of 18 HL‐A antigens were studied among the Japanese population in Japan. The antigens HL‐A 2, 9, 10 (first series) and HL‐A 5, W10 (second series) were more common in the Japanese. HL‐A 1, 8, W14, W18 were found with frequencies of less than 0.7%. The blank of gene frequency in the second series was left as high as 0.5678, suggesting the existence of new antigens to be discovered from the Japanese population.
