. The red cell antigen, Cad, defined by Dolichos lectin is so characteristic that one can always find free cells together with strong agglutinates even in the strongest reactors. The incidence of the antigen is roughly estimated to be 0.03% in Japanese populations, the number of the samples tested being over 50,000. The pedigree studies indicate that the antigen is inheritable as an autosomal dominant character, and that there is evidence against close linkage with the groups ABO, MNSs, Rh, Duffy and Kidd. The striking differences of incidence between the antigens Cad and Sd a are discussed.
