. Anti‐Sp 1 was identified in the serum of an elderly woman following hemicolectomy, complicated by peritonitis. She had received 15 transfusions in the previous six weeks, and anti‐E and anti‐Kell were also present in her serum. The anti‐Sp 1 had a titer of 32,000 with a marked prozone at 4°C. After several surgical procedures, anemia necessitated transfusion. Two 51 Cr red cell survival studies of E negative, Kell negative donors indicated a half‐life of 5 and 10 days, which correlated with temporary elevations in hemoglobin following subsequent transfusions given through a warming coil. No unusual clinical symptoms were observed with transfusion of warmed blood.
