Abstract. An enzyme anti‐human‐globulin test has been used to detect autoantibodies to red cells. Tests done in parallel establish that the method is considerably more sensitive than the conventional direct anti‐human‐globulin test and other methods normally used in antibody detection. Enzyme autoantibodies have been found frequently in several groups of patients. They are heterogeneous as regards immunoglobulin class and sometimes bind complement. Eight patients with haemolytic anaemia in whom enzyme autoantibodies were detected improved when treated with prednisone.
