Summary. Forty‐six transferrin heterozygotes were identified among 2639 blood bank donors from the South Eastern United States. One slow (D 1 ) and two fast (B 1 and B 2 ) mobility types were recognized but no new variants were demonstrated on the basis of mobility. The incidence in Caucasians of fast mobility types was 0.8% and of all variants 1.2%. The incidence of transferrin D 1 in Negroes was 4.5%.
