New Anti‐Beta‐Lipoprotein Sera in Transfused Children with Thalassemia

Summary Precipitating anti‐β‐lipoprotein isoantibodies were found in the sera from six patients out of 80 multiply transfused thalassemic children. Very weak isoprecipitins could be observed in four other cases. Thirteen sera from non‐transfused thalassemic patients were tested as well, but with negative results. The antisera reveal apparently five different specificities within the β‐lipoproteins of human serum. Splenectomy was found to play a significant role in the development and concentration of anti‐β‐lipoprotein antibodies. Résumé Des iso‐anticorps anti‐β‐lipoprotéines furent trouvés dans des sérums provenant de six patients compris dans un lot de 80 enfants thalassémiques ayant reçu plusieurs transfusions. On a retrouvé également une très faible isoprécipitine dans 4 autres cas. Treize sérums de patients thalassémiques non transfusés ont aussi été testés; mais il n'y eut aucun résultat positif. Les anti‐sérums révélèrent apparemment cinq spécificités différentes des β‐lipoprotéines du sérum humain. La splénectomie joue un rôle dans le développement et la concentration des anticorps anti‐β‐lipoprotéines. Zusammenfassung 80 Seren von multitransfundierten Kindern mit Thalassämia major wurden im Ouchterlonytest auf Isoantikörper gegen β‐Lipoprotein untersucht. In 6 Seren fanden sich kräftige, in 4 weitern Seren sehr schwache Isopräzipitine. In 13 Seren von nicht transfundierten Thalassämia‐Patienten konnten keine Anti‐β‐Lipoproteinpräzipitine beobachtet werden. Mit den gefundenen Antikörpern lassen sich vermutlich 5 verschiedene Spezifitäten zur Darstellung bringen. Es konnte gezeigt werden, daß die Splenektomie einen deutlichen Einfluß auf die Bildung der Anti‐β‐Lipoproteinantikörper hat.
