Studies on the Antigenic Components of the S Protein from Different Animal Species

Summary A comparative study between the non‐haemoglobin stroma S proteins prepared from human and cercopithecus erythrocytes was conducted, by employing quantitative precipitin tests and precipitin tests in agar. Evidence is supplied to prove that the above mentioned S proteins give a different number of precipitation bands, which show a common antigenic determinant causing a reaction of partial identity. Résumé Une étude comparative entre les protéines S non hémoglobiniques du stroma préparées à partir d'érythrocytes humains et d'érythrocytes du cercopithecus a été pratiquée au moyen de tests de précipitation quantitatifs et de tests de précipitation en gélose d'agar. Les auteurs ont amené la preuve que les protéines S mentionnées ci‐dessus donnent un nombre différent de lignes de précipitation qui démontrent un déterminant antigènique commun provoquant une réaction d'identité partielle. Zusammenfassung Die S‐Proteine von menschlichen und Cercopithecus‐Erythrozyten wurden mit Hilfe der quantitativen Immunpräzipitation und der Präzipitation im Agargel mit‐einander verglichen. Diese beiden S‐Proteine zeigten eine unterschiedliche Zahl von Präzipitations‐linien. Sie verfügen über eine gemeinsame Antigendeterminante, die sich durch eine Reaktion partieller Identität manifestiert.
