The Occurrence of Blood‐Group Specific Material in the Plasma and Serum of Stored Blood

Summary The plasma and serum of stored group A blood were studied for the presence of blood‐group active material. It was found that, over the periods examined, there was an appreciable rise in the A inhibiting activity of both plasma and serum. It is concluded that blood‐group active material from the red cell appears in the serum or plasma with the aging of blood in vitro . Résumé Le plasma et le sérum du sang conservé ont été étudiés pour y déterminer la presence de substances de groupe actives. Il a été trouvé que, pendant la période d'examen, il y a une augmentation appréciable de l'activité inhibitrice A dans le plasma et le sérum. On peut donc conclure que les substances de groupe actives apparaissent dans le sérum ou le plasma à partir des érythrocytes à mesure que le sang vieillit in vitroZusammenfassung Das Plasma sowie das Serum von gelagertem A‐Blut wurde auf den Gehalt an gelüster A‐Substanz untersucht. Dabei zeigte sich, daß mit zunehmender Dauer der Lagerung der Gehalt an A‐Substanz erheblich zunimmt. Offenbar geht bei Lagerung in vitro mit der Zeit ein Teil der Erythrozytenantigene in Lüsung über.
