Genetic Studies of the New Rh Chromosome Dce i f (Ro i ) Found in a Chibcha Tribe

Summary A new Rh gene complex Dce i f (Ro i ) is traced in two generations of a family and is found in high frequency in an Indian tribe (Ica) of Chibchan affiliation. It is suggested that the mutation formed among the Indians rather than as an introduction by way of non‐Indian populations. It is also suggested that this chromosome could be present in other Indian tribes, especially in those belonging to the Andean Equatorial linguistic family. Résumé Les auteurs ont pu mettre en évidence dans deux générations d'une famille un nouveau complexe de gène Rhésus Dce i f (Ro i ) que l'on trouve à une fréquence élevée chez les Icas, tribu indienne affiliée aux Chibchan. On pense que la présence de ce gène est d'avantage le fait d'une mutation qui a eu lieu parmi les indiens, plutôt que celui de l'introduction du gène acheminé par des populations non indiennes. II est possible que ce chromosome existe dans d'autres tribus indiennes et spécialement parmi celles qui appartiennent à la famille linguistique des Andes équatoriales. Zusammenfassung Ein neuer Rh‐Genkomplex Dce i f (Ro i ) wurde bei zwei Generationen einer Familie festgestellt. Bei dem zur Chibcha‐Gruppe gehörigen Ica‐Indianerstamm wird dieser Rh‐Genkomplex häufig gefunden. Wahrscheinlich handelt es sich urn eine autochthon indianische Mutation und nicht um eine Zumischung aus einer nichtindianischen Bevölkerungsgruppe. Möglicherweise findet sich dieser Rh‐Genkomplex auch bei andern Indianerstämmen, speziell bei solchen, die zur aequatorialandischen Sprachfamilie gehören.
