Summary1 The haemolysin “screening” test appears to be a satisfactory method for the exclusion of dangerous group O blood from a “universal donor” bank. 2 The most satisfactory source of complement haemolysin tests is group O serum. 3 The relationship between the anti A and anti B saline agglutinin, haemolysin titre, and the presence of an incomplete anti A or anti B was studied. 4 A temperature of 56°C. reduces the haemolytic activity of a serum as well as destroying complement.Résumé1 Le test d'hémolyse paraît être une méthode satisfaisante pour exclure les donneurs dangereux de groupe O. 2 La meilleure source de complément pour ce test est le sérum de groupe O. 3 La relation entre les titres d'isoagglutinine et la présence d'anticorps incomplets anti‐A et anti‐B d'une part, et les titres d'hémolysine de l'autre, a étéétudiée. 4 En chauffant un sérum à 56°, on détruit non seulement le complément mais on réduit aussi le pouvoir hémolytique du sérum.Zusammenfassung Der Isohämolysin‐Screening‐Test ist ein brauchbares Verfahren, um «gefährliches» O‐Blut und universell verwendbares O‐Blut auseinanderzuhalten. Die beste Komplementquelle für Iso‐Hämolysin‐bestimmungen ist frisches O‐Serum. Die Beziehungen zwischen dem Isoagglutinintiter, dem Isohämolysintiter und dem Titer der inkompletten Anti‐A‐ und Anti‐B‐Antikörper wurde untersucht. Die Inaktivierung der Seren bei 56°C zerstört nicht nur die Komplement‐aktivität; sie setzt außerdem die Isohämolyseaktivität der Seren herab.
