This trial presents the results of a cross‐over study in which the nitrogen balance was assessed in a non‐catabolic patient using the amino‐acid solution Intramin forter̀, based on studies of human requirements, and a second amino‐acid solution based on the amino‐acid pattern of egg protein. A second study reports on the nitrogen balance findings in five postoperative, catabolic patients to whom Intramin forte was given. The results are compared to previously published findings in a group of similar, probably less surgically traumatized, patients treated with a hydrolysate of casein. Significant differences regarding the nitrogen balance when comparing the effect of these solutions were not obtained.
