The hormonal regulation of the consecutive steps in the formation of tubers on the potato plant ( Solanum tuberosum L.) is described and discussed. An integrated view of the complex regulation of the initiation and growth of stolons and tubers is presented, with special emphasis on the commonly observed lack of synchronization of the various steps in tuber formation within a plant.
