A Mg 2+ ‐dependent, K + ‐stimulated ATPase activity was detected in microsomal preparations from guard cell protoplasts of Commelina communis L. The ATPase activity was oligomycin‐insensitive, highly specific for ATP and strongly inhibited by pentavanadate and CaSO 4 . It is possible that this ATPase is associated with the plasmalemma and its activity linked with K + uptake by guard cells.
