Gas chromatographic and GC‐MS evidence is presented for the occurrence of two auxin substances, 3‐indolylacetic acid and 3‐indolylpropionic acid, in hypocotyls of Cucurbita pepo cv. Golden Hubbard seedlings grown in darkness or under blue‐light illumination. The data provide the first unequivocal evidence for the presence of 3‐indolylpropionic acid in a higher plant.
