A cyanobacterium (WPI‐I) and cyanelles of Glaucocystis nostochinearum Itz, have been introduced into epidermal cells of Allium cepa L. cv. Downing Yellow Globe bulb scales by microinjection. Uptake of cyanelles into protoplasts of Allium cepa and Daucus carota L. cv. Imperator 58 has also been induced with polyethylene glycol. Protoplasts were cultured until new cell walls were synthesized.
