Abscisic acid (ABA) stimulates the oxygen uptake and inhibits the uptake of inorganic phosphate of discs of potato pith. It is assumed that ABA acts as an uncoupler of the oxydative phosphorylation in agreement with what was shown earlier for β inhibitor from resting potato peelings. The effect is probably not directly related to growth phenomena.
