By feeding (methylene‐ 14 C)‐L‐tryptophan, a biosynthetic precursor of the alkaloid harman, to Passiflora edulis it can be shown that the concentration of (3‐ 14 C)‐harman initially increases and then decreases. By feeding (3‐ 14 C)‐harman, the decrease has been further investigated and found to be due to excretion and not catabolic reactions.
