Phosphate‐buffered saline was found to inhibit acid β‐glucosidase activity of cultured cells. This effect was attributable to both the pH and the chloride content of the phosphate‐buffered saline. Washing the cells in sucrose (0.25M) to remove residual phosphate‐buffered saline effectively eliminated this inhibition.
