Serum β‐lipoprotein was found to be quantitatively and qualitatively normal in three patients treated for acrodermatitis enteropathica. This study was prompted by the report of Zaidman et al. (1971) of complete absence of β‐lipoprotein in a severely ill infant with acrodermatitis enteropathica. Our observations support the view that the lipoprotein anomaly in the latter patient was secondary to the disease. The patient studied by Zaidman and his coworkers appears to be the first reported case of secondary complete absence of serum β‐lipoprotein.
