A modified basophil degranulation test proved reliable and easily reproducible in the investigation of 50 patients with allergies to bee and/or wasp stings. Its diagnostic value is comparable to that of the RAST and it is, in addition, simpler, quicker and cheaper. Its disadvantage is that it has to be performed within 24–36 hour after withdrawal of blood.
