In 1750 Casanova met Henriette de Bourbon‐Conti, Duchess of Chartres, in Paris. She was suffering from a disfiguring syphilis. He prescribed an unusual treatment and noticed a transient improvement. But skin disorders rapidly recurred. A few years later the young aristocrat died.
