The association between psoriasis and a particular form of arthritis was first observed by Jean Louis Alibert’ in 1818, but it was only in 1860 that Ernest Bazin2 coined the term “arthropathic psoriasis.” In 1880, Charles Bourdillon’s3 careful studies further contributed to understanding this condition. Subsequently, many other authors described the association between these two pathologies, and in 1973, Moll and Wright4 identified and related the clinical aspects peculiar to the joints and those affecting the skin, defining psoriatic arthropathy (PA) as an inflammatory arthritis, generally with a negative rheumatoid factor, associated with psoriasis.
