Summary: Weed hosts of the rice root nematode, Hirschmanniella spinicaudata were surveyed in a swamp rice field at Badeggi, Nigeria. Forty‐five weed species, mainly grasses and sedges occurred very frequently and were very good hosts of the nematode. A wild rice, Oryza longistaminata was a preferred host. The importance of the weed hosts is discussed.
