Summary. The effect of herbicide application on the relation between first and total number of contacts using the point quadrat method was studied. It was found that none of the herbicides tested — paraquat, dalapon, disodium methylarsonate, cacodylic acid and amitrole — affected the relationship appreciably, although differences in control were obtained. It is concluded that once the relation between first and total contacts is established in a particular field, the percentage weed control can he obtained with first contacts only, and the percentage weed control for total contacts calculated if necessary.
