Some academics (and those responsible for in‐service training within industry) may have sampled the alphabet soup that includes the acronyms: CAL, CBT, CAI and CBL. Whether these collections of letters designate Computer Aided Learning, Computer Based Teaching, Computer Aided Instruction or Computer Based Learning the initial interest on the part of the trainers (especially in the UK) is likely to have been motivated by the same question—“Will these methods allow me to teach more students, more effectively, without an increase in the level of resource?”
