. An ovarian polytene chromosome map of Anopheles mousinhoi is presented with a discussion of chromosome arm associations and X chromosome homologies with the An.marshallii complex of species. Scanning electron microscopy of the previously undescribed egg shows marked similarities between An.mousinhoi and An.funestus. Major morphological differences between An. mousinhoi and the An. marshallii complex are described. Anopheles mousinhoi is recorded from South Africa for the first time.
