Microtermes aethiopicus , a new species of fungus‐growing termite (Macrotermitinae), is described from Ethiopia, where it is widespread in the central, southern and western provinces. It is distinguished from other Microtermes spp. by the soldiers' possession of distinct mandibular teeth.
