. The genitalia of both males and females of the P.alpina‐complex are highly variable, both within and between sites, and sometimes bilaterally asymmetric. On the basis of this variation five species are placed in synonymy with Panorpa alpina Rambur: antiporum Nagler; plitvicensis Lauterbach; pseudoalpina Nagler; pura Klapalek; susteri Nagler. The sub‐genus Aulops is placed once again in synonymy with Panorpa.
