. The old‐world genus Apelaunothrips Karny is redefined with descriptions of ten new species. A key is provided to the nineteen species of the genus: armatus sp.n.; bhowalii (Ananthakrishnan) comb.n.; bicolor sp.n.; consimilis (Ananthakrishnan) comb.n.;femoralis sp n.; gabonensis (Bournier) comb.n.; indicus (Ananthakrishnan); japonicus sp.n.; leios (Mound); lieni sp.n.; luridus sp.n.; maculipennis (Okajima) combji.; malayensis sp. n.; medioflavus (Karny); montanus sp. n.; nigripennis sp. n.; ocularis sp.n.; tasmani Mound; tricolor (Priesner). One species, madrasensis , is removed from the genus to Dexiothrips Hart wig.
