Ectoparasitic adaptations in Forcipomyia from butterflies with two new African species (Ceratopogonidae)

. Two new ectoparasities of butterflies from Africa are described: Forcipomyia (Trichohelea) monoplectron sp.n. and F.collinsi sp.n. A key for the identification of the African species ofthe subgenus Trichohelea is given. The extraodinary distribution of F.collinsi in Africa and South America is tentatively correlated with the distribution of migratory Rhopalocera. An hypothesis is presented for the functional significance of the tarsal claw modifications in this group of parasites.
